Azalea Bonsai Trees -Review and Care Instructions

The Azalea Bonsai Tree

The Azalea were one of the earliest tree’s to be imported from China and used for Bonsai Gardening. Although they are quite adaptable to there environment – the Azalea Bonsai still does need proper care and maintanence for good results and a beautiful looking Azalea.

Azalea (satsuki azalea) – $ 5400.00
Satsuki Azaleas are known for their prized flowers and small evergreen leaves. Hardy. Keep outdoors. 50 years old. 32″ tall. Potted in ceramic container as shown. Crated and shipped via truck – $300.00

With beautiful blooms that flower gently into full blossom of pink and white leaves and petals – this particular Bonsai is known for color and a trunk that develops quickly.

Some things to think about when caring for your own Azalea :

Sunlight and Watering

Azaleas can dry quickly -and because they ALSO need plenty of sunlight (4-8 hours daily) -it is best to provide them with water regularly. Basically, just dont let the soil around the tree get dry.

Soil and Fertilizer

O.K. , now when the Azalea begins to grow , and produce new foliage -like the beginning of summer – thats the best time to add some organic fertilizer. Usually pellets or even liquid – try it every 2 weeks during growing season. When the tree’s growth slows down, thats when you can stop the fertilizer.

Usually azaleas need extra levels of acidic soil -this can be accomplished by adding peat throughout the growing season.

Pruning Instructions

Azalea Bonsai tree’s are also known for there excessive growth -of leaves and feeder roots. Although we want our azaleas to maintain there normal growth patterns -we still need to trim a few of the feeder roots during the late summer months when things slow down.

When new shoots form and begin to grow leaves, make sure you keep the new leaves to a minimum at first when the shoot is young. This will give it a better chance to gain as much nutrients as possible without needing too much to stay alive.

And lastly, make sure you have an idea of what you want your Azalea Bonsai to look like – and then try to keep that shape throughout the life of your tree.
